"Boranes are key compounds in a wide variety of metal mediated organic transformations such as hydroboration, borylation, boron transfer reactions or dehydrogenation of ammonia borane. Metal boron chemistry is thus an active field of investigation. It is, nevertheless, dominated by reactivity studies with disubstituted boranes HBRR' (R,R' = pinacol, catechol, alkyl), and suffers from the scarcity of isolated sigma-borane complexes, since the first report in 1996 by Hartwig et al. This is highlighted in the opening Chapter, which presents the progress made so far in their elucidation. The following chapters concern the coordination of novel boranes prepared within the framework of this thesis. The results are discussed on the basis of experimental (multinuclear NMR, X-rays) and theoretical analyses. Chapter II deals with the coordination of monosubstituted boranes RBH2 on dihydride ruthenium fragments. It aims at describing a new family of ''bis-sigma-borane complexes'', and evaluating the influence of the boron substituent within a wide scope of electronic and steric effects for R. Chapter III and IV present the investigation on bidentate and potentially hemilabile L~BHR (L = P,S and R = amino, alkyl) borane-containing ligands, of which the coordination could be precisely emphasized on ruthenium and iridium fragments respectively."Document : Thèse de Doctorat Etablissement_delivrance : Université de Toulouse 3 Date_soutenance : 08/10/2010 Ecole_doctorale : Sciences de la matière (SdM) Domaine : Chimie Organométallique et de Coordination Localisation : LCC En ligne : https://theses.fr/2010TOU30135 Coordination de boranes originaux en chimie du Ru et de l'Ir.
"Group 9 metal derivatives containing both a cyclopentadienyl ligand and a phosphine ligand are currently being studied extensively due to their remarkable properties. The bidentate ligand cyclopentadienyl(ethyl)diphenylphosphine, which has both functionalities, has been used to obtain and study chelate derivatives of the above type. The first chapter describes the preparations of these compounds #5: #1-c#5h#4(ch#2) #2p(c#6h#5) #2ml (m = rh; l = co, c#2h#4: m = ir; l = co, c#2h#4, c#8h#1#4) from common rhodium(i) and iridium(i) complexes. These syntheses involve the formation of bimetallic kinetic intermediates (-(#5: #1-c#5h#4(ch#2) #2p(c#6h#5) #2) rh(co)#2 well highlighted in the case m = rh, l = co, which then transform into stable chelated monometallic species. The second chapter describes the preparation and structural study of rhodium(iii) and iridium(iii) complexes of type #5: #1-c#5h#4(ch#2) #2p(c#6h#5) #2mx#2 (m = rh, ir; x = i, cf#3coo) obtained by oxidative addition of iodine on the parent compounds of type #5: #1#-c#5h#4(ch#2) #2p(c#6h#5) #2ml. The redox properties of these complexes as well as their reactivity towards alkylating and hydriding agents were further investigated. The third chapter concerns the partial dehalogenation of complex #5: #1#-c#5h#4(ch#2) #2p(c#6h#5) #2rhi#2by reaction with agpf#6 or agbf#4(i#2/agpf#6 = 1/1). This reaction leads to the iodine-bridged dinuclear dicationic complex #5: #1#-c#5h#4(ch#2) #2p(c#6h#5) #2rhi#2#2#+2pf#6; the reduction of this complex by zinc or by libhet#3 has been studied. It results first in the formation of a monocationic dimetallic intermediate with mixed valence, which by disproportionation leads to a solvated monometallic compound #5: #1-c#5h#4(ch#2) #2p(c#6h#5) #2 rhi(thf)#+pf#6#- and to a reduced dimetallic complex with metal-metal bond #5: #1-c#5h#4(ch#2) #2p(c#6h#5) #2rhi#2."
