Résumé : |
"The hydroboration reaction must be classed as a major advance in synthetic organic chemistry. Therefore, the present volume is a welcome addition to the chemical literature. The many applications of the hydroboration reaction which Professor Brown and his students have developed and the use of the hydroboration reaction by other workers have been summarized and interwoven into a very readable text. However, it would have helped the reader if a consistent nomenclature had been used. For example, RBH2 is referred to as a borane and as a diborane. The book is well illustrated with equations which allow the reader to grasp readily the significance of the text material. The volume begins with a general survey of hydroboration and follows with chapters which logically develop the applications and ramifications of the reaction. The chapter covering hydroboration procedures could have been improved considerably by including a few detailed experimental procedures and by including a section on some of the hazards involved, especially for the generation and use of diborane It would have improved the book considerably if a more durable binding and a thinner paper had been used; the rough porous surface of the cover is easily soiled and the heavy paper preve-its the book from lying open. The book is recommanded to students and chemists alike, who are interested in organoboron chemistry, stereochemistry, or synthetic organic chemistry." |
