MACROLIDE ANTIBIOTICS ANTI-BACTERIAL AGENTS-Pharmacology MACROLIDES-Pharmacology |
Index. décimale : |
B-F |
Résumé : |
"Macrolide antibiotics are widely used in clinical practice today. They are highly active against most Gram-positive organisms and also against several atypical and/or intracellular pathogens of great clinical importance such as Chlamydia and legionella spp. Besides erythromycin, the first agent in this class introduced in clinical practice for almost 40 years, an impressive series of new compounds has been introduced especially over the last decade and many new ones are under development.
They show improved pharmacokinetics, bioavailability and tolerance, and have accordingly renewed the interest in this class of drugs.
The present book presents a comprehensive overview of macrolides in the 1990's. It ranges from chemical aspects to clinical uses, and is based on in depth biological and pharmacological analyses. It has been written by a collegium of more than 70 experts selected worldwide for their knowledge and daily experience with these antibiotics, and their contributions have been coordinated by a team of European and American editors. It will stand as a companion book for clinicians and pharmacists, as well as for researchers in the field of chemotherapy." |
