Studies in the history of chemistry / Harold B. (Sir) Hartley
Titre : Studies in the history of chemistry Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Harold B. (Sir) Hartley, Éditeur scientifique Editeur : Oxford : Clarendon Press Année de publication : 1971 Importance : xi, 243 p. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-19-858130-7 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Chimie : Généralités Tags : CHEMISTRY-History Index. décimale : B-A Résumé : "As stated in the Preface, this book comprises a series of lectures originally put together seventy years ago. These have been amplified, updated and polished during the course of the author's long and distinguished life of chemical research. Sir Harold Hartley admits that there are chemists whom he would have liked to have covered (e.g., Cavendish, Wollaston, Pasteur), "but at ninety I mustn't delay any longer." Despite these omissions, this is an excellent and scholarly book, seasoned by the author's vast experience and mature judgment.
The time-span covered is approximately 1760-1860; i.e., the period including the later phlogiston theory, "Chemical Revolution," birth of the chemical atomic theory, early electrochemistry, and the beginning of organic chemistry as a distinct discipline."Cote : B-A005 (SdS) Num_Inv : 5 Studies in the history of chemistry [texte imprimé] / Harold B. Titre : History of nanotechnology: from prehistoric to modern times Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Sharon, Madhuri, Éditeur scientifique Editeur : New York : Wiley Année de publication : 2019 Importance : xi, 294 p. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-119-46008-4 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Information scientifique : Généralités Tags : CHEMISTRY-HISTORY Index. décimale : B-I Résumé : The scientific knowledge of nanoscience and nanotechnology is regarded to be a modern sciencethat evolved after Feynman’s concept was formulated in the 1950s. However, Faraday and other scientists in the 19th century showed the science behind the small and its relation to optical properties. And it is now accepted that knowledge of using nanoparticles prevailed during the medieval period as well.
This book takes the readers on a fascinating journey writing the history of nanotechnology based on the evidence of existence from the prehistoric period right up to the contemporary times. Nature utilized nanotechnology during the origin and expansion of the universe and especially in the evolution of living beings on our planet. Early civilizations in different parts of globe fabricated and used materials without having perception of their actual size.Note de contenu : "* How old is nanotechnology?
* Pre-historic evidence of knowledge of nanotechnology
* Nanotechnology in ancient India
* Ayurvedic Bhasma as nanomedicine
* Mayan’s knowledge of nanotechnology
* Nanotechnology during the Roman empire and medieval period
* European knowledge in the 19th century
* Modern and contemporary history of nanotechnology".Cote : B-I023 Num_Inv : 731 Localisation : LCC (SdS) History of nanotechnology: from prehistoric to modern times [texte imprimé] / Sharon, Madhuri, Éditeur scientifique . - New York : Wiley, 2019 . - xi, 294 p.

Dunitz, Auteur Editeur : Weinheim : VCH Année de publication : 1993 Importance : 154 p. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-3-527-28488-7 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Technologies, Méthodes, Réactions Tags : MOLECULAR THEORY CHEMISTRY-History Résumé : "Heilbronner and Dunitz are both professors of chemistry. Although their book is aimed primarily at chemists, the authors hope it will also appeal to scientits in general, and indeed, to laymen with an interest of science from its cloudy beginnings to its persuasive influence in modern society. Rather than going into the formal mathematical background, the authors describe how symmetry concepts inherrited from the early Greek philosophers began to enter scientific thougts. In chemistry, the main impact has been on the development of the molecular hypothesis. Once ti became recognized that molcules were just more or less arrangements of atoms in space, symmetry concepts began to play an ever increasing role in chemical science - not only in specialist arreas such as spectroscopy, crystallography, and theoretical chemistry, but also in the everyday activities of the practical synthetic chemist. Today, chemistry teaching has adapted itselfto some extent to this situation. Chemistry students are now often inroduced to symmetry concepts at the very beginning of their sudies; older chemists may be at a disadvantage in this respect. If they feel that their encounter with symmetry concepts during their student days was inadequate, the present book may help to fill the deficit."
Cote : B-I017 Num_Inv : 3561 Localisation : LCC (SdS) Le chasseur d'atomes [texte imprimé] / Marciel, Alexandre, Auteur . - Azart atelier éditions, 2018 . - 292 p.
