The organic compounds of boron, aluminium, gallium, indium and thallium / A. N. Nesmeyanov
Titre : The organic compounds of boron, aluminium, gallium, indium and thallium Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : A. N. Nesmeyanov ; R. A. Sokolik Editeur : Amsterdam : North-Holland Publishing Company Année de publication : 1967 Collection : Methods of elemento-organic chemistry, ISSN 0543-6141 num. 1 Importance : xii, 628 p. Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Russe (rus) Catégories : Chimie organique Tags : ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUNDS BORON COMPOUNDS GALLIUM Résumé : “The first volume of this new series was published in 1964 by Nauka Press in Moscow and has been partly revised for translation into English. The various sections (...) of the book are mostly arranged according to methods of synthesis; for boron and aluminum, compounds without a metal-carbon bond are included. In a few sections (…), division is according to the substances described. An article on analytical methods for each element discussed is also included.
The book is intended above all for the chemist engaged in preparative work in organometallic chemistry and it will help him in his search for the best preparative method for a given compound by providing him with a wealth of procedures. However, because of the division by methods the same class of compound is often described in several places, and then the necessary cross-references are lacking so that the required data is not always very easy to find (...)
In spite of these failings, the book does provide a useful review of this complicated material although critical evaluation is still required of the reader. If this volume were thoroughly revised by the authors and editors it would fulfill a useful purpose among the literature of preparative organometallic chemistry.”Cote : B-C026 (SdS) Num_Inv : 205 The organic compounds of boron, aluminium, gallium, indium and thallium [texte imprimé] / A. Titre : The organic compounds of magnesium, beryllium, calcium, strontium and barium Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : S. T. Ioffe ; A. N. Nesmeyanov Editeur : Amsterdam : North-Holland Publishing Company Année de publication : 1967 Collection : Methods of elemento-organic chemistry, ISSN 0543-6141 num. 2 Importance : x, 735 p. Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Russe (rus) Catégories : Chimie organique Tags : ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUNDS Résumé : "The book is divided into two parts which differ in their size and treatment. The first part (650 pages) contains 18 chapters describing the reactions of Grignard reagents with various classes of organic compounds, as well as the preparation, analysis, and structure of Grignard compounds. This part is evidently based on the three-volume handbook on organomagnesium compounds (1950) by the same authors, which has been condensed and brought up to date by the inclusion of additional material. The second part presents a much more detaiIed discussion of the organic compounds of beryllium (27 pages), calcium, strontium, and barium (18 pages). The small space devoted to these topics reflects the scarcity of relevant investigations.
Each chapter has a comprehensive list of references. The literature is taken into account up to the end of 1961, and important work carried out up to the beginning of 1965 has also been added to the translation. The volume of publications to be covered was very large (much more than 10000 being known on Grignard compounds alone), and the authors are to be congratulated on the care that they have taken in this task. For many years they have been among the leading authorities in this field. It is for this very reason, however, that in the reviewer’s opinion they might have made greater use of their right to criticize. (...) Some comment by the authors as to what may now be regarded as definite and what may not would be of great value to readers who are unfamiliar with the subject matter.
In view of the importance of this book as a reference work, the author and subject indexes might perhaps have been more detailed.(...) The book provides those who are interested with a valuable reference work, which fills a gap in the long-neglected handbook and monograph literature on organometallic chemistry."Cote : B-C027 (SdS) Num_Inv : 206 The organic compounds of magnesium, beryllium, calcium, strontium and barium [texte imprimé] / S. Titre : The organic compounds of zinc and cadmium Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : N. I. Sheverdina ; A. N. Nesmeyanov Editeur : Amsterdam : North-Holland Publishing Company Année de publication : 1967 Collection : Methods of elemento-organic chemistry, ISSN 0543-6141 num. 3 Importance : x, 252 p. Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Russe (rus) Catégories : Chimie organique Tags : ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUNDS Résumé : "In the present book 120 pages are devoted to the classical preparative chemistry of organozinc compounds and 77 to that of organocadmium compounds, both topics enjoying the same comprehensive treatment. (…) The task that the authors have set themselves can be summarized in the terms “Preparation of ...” and “Reactions with ...”, and they have accordingly set out the voluminous subject matter in a clear manner. Each chapter has its own bibliography. The chemistry of the alkylzincs was last published as a monograph some 30 years ago, whereas that of the alkylcadmiums has never appeared in monograph form. A welcome fact is that experienced authors, known and valued for many years in the field of organometallic chemistry, have taken this task upon themselves.
The literature is covered as far as it has been considered in the Russian abstracts publication (Ref. Z. Chim) up to July 1, 1963. A series of randomly chosen examples showed that publications up to the middle of 1961 have been considered; references from 1962 or 1963 are seldom encountered and concern primarily Russian papers. (…)
The analysis of the compounds covered is dealt with in short sections and considers only elemental analyses and short tables of melting points and boiling points. Analytical techniques such as spectroscopy are not included. As a result of the preparative tone of the work, modern structural chemistry and reaction mechanisms, which have of late attracted greatly increased interest in organometallic chemistry, are not done full justice. Just an occasional reference is made to dissociation energies.
(…) Not least because of the chapter on the Reformatzky reaction, the book is not only useful for the organometallic chemist, but represents a valuable reference work for all chemists engaged in preparative work, and certainly fills a gap in the existing literature."Cote : B-C028 (SdS) Num_Inv : 207 The organic compounds of zinc and cadmium [texte imprimé] / N.
